Portable Music/Picture/Video Player VS Laptop

A while ago I was surfing net for things about Zune (an upcoming new portable player manufactured by Toshiba), I came across with the following story:

I actually saw some kid on the subway yesterday using his gigantic 15" laptop as an MP3 player. Picture a guy walking into the train, holding his laptop in its case with the screen cracked open a few inches to prevefnt the laptop from going to sleep. He was careful to hold the laptp with both hands an parallel to the ground. He then proceeded to open it up fully, maximize iTunes, fiddle around wit the track and volume, then slightly close the screen again. On the very next stop, he got off, still holding his screen open. It looked completely ridiculous and cumbersome, and this is exactly why portable media players have a market today.

Badminton + Tennis = ?

I would call it Bad-Tennis! I never thought it would be so much fun with this sport, and so much different than badminton.

Tennis is an exact opposite of Badminton. Here's the differences:
- You have to be at the position before you swing (at least for me right now)

- You have to use your arm as opposed to your wrist in badminton

- You have to further control your power, a big swing will make it far far far out

- Slicing is a little different than badminton

- A tennis ball costs 1/2 a badminton birddie

- I have to run much more. I get exhausted (yeah really exhausted, can't run anymore) after 30 mins, which in badminton I can last at least 2 hours.

- The swings are slower than the badminton ones

- Must hit the ball before it pass you, since you can't use your wrist to adjust the angle of impact of the racquet and the ball once the ball passes your body.

As it turns out, this sport pinpoints at my weakness: stamina and concentration. But of all those, I find it more enjoyable than badminton somehow.

TV Holiday Season

It seems the last christmas holiday season was a new-TV season. With me and my 23" TV, Philiip and his new 4:3 TV (forgot how big it is) LCD TV, and Leslie's 42" Plasma that he got for "unknown price" (ppl gave it to him? WHAT?! it cost $3000 or so? WHAT?!)... and I heard Sam is getting a new Plasma too.

Oh, the funny thing is - Andy said he got a 42" and put in bed-end for gaming =.=" (wont it be too large for games?) I wonder what will the next wave be?

TV Arrived!

YEAH my new TV has finally arrived. I just hooked all nasty wires up and it's up and running. Though it's 23", but it's big enough to call it a TV already.

Dell 23" LCD TV + Windows Vista build 5270 = can't find a word to describe it, oops!

Thx to Philip, I could somehow get a Dell 23" LCD TV for a cheaper price, $803.45 included shipping and tax ($899 was the price tag, but had $200 before-tax instant rebate). Arriving on Thursday, featuring what a TV should, plus PC's VGA and DVI connection, and I think it has a spot for you to plug into your computer to make the TV act like normal speakers.

The Vista December CTP build looks way too sexy compare to the last build we got (5231). 39 Build numbers apart makes THIS MUCH different. Though it's still buggy, and Windows Explorer is so crashy, but so far the morale among the testers (including me) is high enough to pass through this Christmas and leave November CTP case behind. With almost every part of the OS changed in someway, while the user won't get lost, the OS design is certainly getting solid,and feature-complete is finally in sight (in a tester point of view). Personally I can finally see reasons of upgrading to Vista when it RTMs.

Yeah my dad brought a Panasonic DMC-FX9 (a small digicam) from Hong Kong :D

The quality is good, especially the movie-clip quality. Too bad 1GB can only record 10 minutes of content.

Piano Concerto and Symphony Orchestra concert

For a person who stopped playing piano for years, going for piano concerts just isn't a thing I would do frequently. But everytime I go, I go with fullness of enjoyment, and this time is no exception.

Luckily I got a pretty close (but not too close like the first or second row, which I would barely see anything), I got a seat at 4th row which gives me a very clear view on the piano that Lang Lang played. The concert consists of two pieces - a Piano Concerto, and a Symphony, and of course - Lang Lang was only staying for the first half of it.

There was something distinctive between piano and other instruments, as it was clearly noticible during the concert - the pianist can freely express its own feeling towards the piece (or part of the piece) with its own desired pace. It's not like Lang Lang's pace is significantly faster or slower, but I sensed this freedom of expression (freedom of "speech") throughout the piano sections.

It's pretty funny to note that everytime a pause occur, everybody standed up and claps~ Why this is funny? You'll see as you read on.

The way Lang Lang plays look ..... funny. He inspired me of the way to simply hit the piano keyboard in an entirely cosmetic, but natural way - for instance: there are times he cross his arms to play. I noticed he once emulated grasshoper-fist-like style to play at his right hand (yeah, just like how computer newbs type on keyboard) while left hand plays a fast-pace continuious track.

Encore is a common thing audience would ask, as we all standed and claps and claps, Lang Lang gave us a chinese-style piano solo, composed by a Chinese guy I think (as the composer was one of the audience there). As always, Lang Lang is fast and precise~

After the piano concerto, me, Alice, and some other friends went out for CD hunting; what CD? Of course Lang Lang CD, as there will be a signings after~

As the symphony started, I shifted focus onto the violinists and chello-ists. I seldom seeing ppl play violins and chellos and this time serves a good experience to me. They used their finger to tip the string to make sound. One person doing that would not make significant sound effect; but if over 20 violinists and 10 chellos doing that at the same time, it's just amazing.

As a movement is finished, ppl claps, but seldom stand-up~ I'm not sure whether the symphony part is simply not as interesting as the piano concerto, or Lang Lang was simply the primary reason of majority of audiences' presence?

After all the great hearing, it's time for a signature-hunt. We both left a bit early so to get in line faster - wait - there were already 30 ppl waiting in line!!!! It's probably due to the fact that we went for a detour to find the line-up, we could've been there faster~ but it's not too bad, as there were at least 60 ppl behind us later on. =.=" phew~

I'll get some photos later. It's time for me to go school.
